Leon shifted his body under the covers as he turned to glance at the clock. A seven, three, and a zero glowed at him and he groaned. His internal clock was set to make sure he was up before eight every morning to allow him plenty of time to get ready for work. But it was the first day of the New Year and he didn’t have to work. So he rolled over and tried to go back to sleep.

Sitting up, Leon finally noticed that he was alone in the bed. He frowned as the memories from the night drifted to the front of his brain, especially Michael’s threat of leaving him. He knew Michael wouldn’t really leave him but he still got out of bed. It didn’t feel right to sleep without Michael anyway.

As he made his way to the kitchen, he smiled at the familiar domestic scene that he normally only got the pleasure of seeing on Sundays when Michael was actually awake before him. Michael was busying himself in front of the stove and Leon knew that he was making eggs since it was the only food he ever attempted to cook. Leon was always slightly disappointed that cooking was one trait Michael did not get from his original. He considered themselves lucky that he also hadn’t obtained his original’s cooking skills or else they would have starved years ago.

Leon quietly walked behind Michael until he could wrap his arms around Michael’s waist, careful of his shell. “Morning,” Leon pressed a kiss to Michael’s neck.

Michael put his spatula down and turned around in Leon’s arms to wrap his own around Leon’s neck. “Good morning, Leon.” Michael smiled sadly at him.

Leon frowned and sighed. “Don’t look at me like that, Michael.” He grumbled as he untwined himself from Michael’s arms.

Michael frowned. “It’s okay to still be upset about--”

“I’m not upset about, about the rape.” Leon argued. “That was five years ago. Besides, I told you that so I could finally get over it, not to gain pity from you. Now it’s 2111, a brand new year, and we’re going to start it off right.” Leon declared. “I’ll make breakfast because, no offense, but burnt eggs aren’t the way to start off this year.”

Michael stuck his tongue out at Leon. “I don’t burn eggs when I wear an apron.” He leered at Leon.

Leon rolled his eye. “You don’t get the chance to cook anything when you wear an apron.” He took over cooking the eggs that Michael had so easily abandoned.

“Right, so I don’t burn anything.” Michael moved forward and wrapped his arms around Leon’s waist to kiss Leon’s neck, repeating Leon’s own actions. Leon hummed his approval and bowed his head forward to allow more of Michael’s ministrations.

The two jerked apart as a sudden figure jumped onto the kitchen counter. “Meow,” the cat looked at them as it marched across the counter.

“Morning, Rafieo! Baby, you know you can’t be too close to the stove.” Michael smiled and picked up the cat, petting its soft fur and then placing it on the floor. “Is someone hungry and want breakfast? You know that only Daddy Michael really loves you. Come on; let’s go get some yummy wet food for my baby.” Leon rolled his eye.

“You babying that thing makes me lose my appetite.” Leon muttered.

Michael stuck his tongue out at Leon. “Then I’ll eat your eggs.” Leon scoffed.

“If you eat my eggs than I’m eating your pancakes.” Leon threatened.

Michael shrieked, causing Leon to twitch at the sudden loud noise. “You’re making pancakes too? Wow, what’s the special occasion?”

Leon smirked. “Well, it is New Year’s Day,” he looked over his shoulder to smile at Michael. “That’s pretty special, don’t you think?”

Michael nodded enthusiastically. “If you say it’s special enough to get pancakes then totally!” He scooped some wet food into a cat dish and then ran to the cabinets to search for ingredients. “Now the only question is; what kind of pancakes? Are you going to make chocolate chip, blueberry, or banana?”

“I’ll make all three.” Leon promised.

Michael’s eyes lit up and he hugged Leon. “I love you!”

Leon chuckled and turned his head to press a kiss to Michael’s forehead. “I love you too.”

_-_-_-_-_-

Leon and Michael walked hand in hand around the sewer together. Normally, they liked to walk in the park located in the city but the snow had the two turtles voting to deal with the smell rather than the cold.

“Wow, Leon,” Michael commented as he leaned against him, pressing their connected hands between their bodies. “You weren’t kidding when you said you wanted to start this year off well. First I had a breakfast of champions--”

“What kind of champion eats three stacks of various pancakes for breakfast followed by a four egg omelet and then finally oatmeal?” Leon questioned.

“Obviously the awesome kind of champion,” Michael retorted. “Anyway, then you watched my favorite hologram show for a three hour marathon, rubbed my feet,” Leon shuddered at the reminding and Michael playfully punched him without missing a beat about reminiscing, “made me a sandwich taller than Rafieo, you actually bathed Rafieo, and then we ordered food from my favorite take-out place! I honestly couldn’t think of a better way to spend my day.” Michael’s wide grin turned into a leer. “Well, actually, if you need a suggestion for how to end the day on a good note…”

“Trust me, Michael; I’m prepared to end this day with a bang.” Leon informed as he squeezed Michael’s hand. “Do you remember that?” Leon asked as he motioned with his free hand to a carving on the sewer wall.

Michael looked at the wall and smiled at the rough carving of a heart with a proclaimed “LxM” inside. “Of course I remember that.” Michael released Leon’s hand in favor of tracing the rough carving. “That was on our second year anniversary and you told me that as long as this carving lasts, so will our relationship.” Michael smiled fondly. “Although, you are a much better swordsman now, maybe you should carve another one? I mean, this heart is rather sloppy looking,” he teased, “and I think it should be a little deeper. Don’t you--”

Michael stared as he turned around and found Leon down on one knee before him. “What are you doing?” Michael frowned at him.

“Michael,” Leon reached out to hold Michael’s left hand in his right hand. “I love you and I truly believe that I was made to love and protect you forever.” He pulled out a little blue box and held it in his other hand making Michael’s eyes go wide. “I want to spend forever with you and I want the whole universe to know of my love for you. Will you allow me the honor of having you as my husband alongside of my lover, my boyfriend, my soul mate, my everything?” He flipped open the box to reveal the shining gold ring inside. Michael’s tongue lolled out of his mouth as his free hand rose to press against his plastron. “Michael, will you marry me?” Leon asked as he stared into Michael’s eyes.

Stunned, Michael could only gawk at Leon for a moment before he retracted his tongue into his mouth and grinned goofily. “I love you,” Michael announced.

Leon chuckled. “That’s not exactly a “yes” you know.”

“Yes, yes, a million times yes!” Michael shook his left hand impatiently.

Leon broke into a wide grin as he took the ring out of the box and placed it on Michael’s finger. Michael would never admit to the squealing noise of happiness he made when he lifted his hand to stare at the ring. He wrapped his arms around Leon and attacked his face with kisses.

Then he broke away to stare at the ring again and he frowned suddenly. “How did you afford this?” Michael asked.

Leon shook his head. “Don’t worry; I’ve been saving up for it. And I still have enough left over for our wedding.”

“Our wedding,” Michael repeated as another wide smile erupted on his face. “I can’t believe this. This is just so amazing and, and,” Michael paused as he searched Leon’s face. “You’ve planned this a long time ago, didn’t you?” Leon chuckled guiltily. “When did you start planning this?”

“Well, I knew I wanted to marry you a long time ago, but actually planning it and saving the money, that took about three years.” Leon smirked as he watched Michael’s eyes turn to look at the carving.

“You and your plans, Fearless.” Michael giggled as he rested his head against Leon’s plastron, his left hand slowly stroking up and down Leon’s side. “So, when is our wedding?”

“On our anniversary,” Leon informed. “I have the little chapel next to the park reserved already. We don’t have a lot of money for the wedding but fortunately we don’t have to worry about a reception since we won’t have guests.”

“We do need someone to watch us to get married though, don’t we? Like a witness that we did take the vows and what not?” Michael questioned.

“Yeah but I already have someone in mind for that. I just need to ask him.” Leon rubbed a hand up and down Michael’s shell as the two basked in the moment. “But I’m sure he’ll say yes, after all, I saved his life once.” Leon chuckled.

Michael hummed and turned his head to smile up at Leon. “You did end this perfect day with a bang.”

“Good to know that I started this year off right, just like I planned.” Leon smiled back and leaned down to gently kiss Michael.

Michael wrapped his arms around Leon’s neck and pulled away from the kiss to grin at Leon. “Pick me up and carry me home. You need to practice.”

Leon snorted even as he bent down to scoop Michael’s legs up. “If I recall correctly, I had plenty of practice carrying you around like this.” Michael giggled as he nuzzled Leon’s neck.

“Yeah but I just want to make sure that the extra weight of my ring isn’t going to throw you off.” Michael teased.

Leon rolled his eye. “Oh please, it’s just a simple band. It’s not like I could afford a diamond on my paycheck, even if I have been saving for so many years.”

“I don’t care what it cost, it’s perfect, Leon.” Michael reassured as he looked at his shinning ring again. “Besides, everyone knows that the dress is the pricy thing in a wedding.”

Leon chuckled. “You really want to wear a dress?”

“Shell no!” Michael pressed against Leon’s neck and mumbled into his skin, “But maybe we can find a really nice white apron for the wedding night?”

Leon stumbled, nearly dropping Michael who cried out indignantly. “I told you this practice thing was a good idea!”

Pfft. Michael is the definition of dense. Besides, why would he have reason to suspect something? Leon acts loving and nice all the time.
