Well, I hope I spelled that right. Seriously, my spelling in Spanish is so much worse than my regular spelling, and trust me, that's bad. Still, I'm off to Peru tomorrow! I'll be back on August seventh and maybe I'll post some pictures and rant about how awesome the trip was. I'm really excited but I'm also a bit rushed 'cause I'm trying to update all of my fandoms and pack right now! Oh noes!

Rafieo’s thoughts often wandered on the nights he didn’t spend with Mikey. Even though things were all squared between him and the orange clad ninja, Rafieo still had trouble falling asleep, simply because he hated the feeling of being alone in his bed. Lightening flashed across the sky, illuminating the alley for a moment as Rafieo stumbled behind a large dumpster. The large, red turtle panted as he slid to the ground, still clutching his stolen groceries to his chest. The car alarms blazed past the alleyway and Rafieo grinned. “Stupid peace keepers,” he leaned against the dumpster for a moment and wiped at his face, trying futilely to get the rain off even as it continued to downpour.
Thunder rumbled through the sky as Rafieo continued to sit and wait until his heart calmed down. He hated running when his instincts told him to fight. But Donald had yet to fix his weapons; the brainiac was too concerned with setting up his room in their new home before he did anything else, which meant he couldn’t really fight unless he wanted to end up in jail. He wasn’t a fighter without his weapons; unlike the turtles he was cloned from, he wasn’t taught any ninja techniques.

Rafieo’s thoughts often wandered on the nights he didn’t spend with Mikey. Even though things were all squared between him and the orange clad ninja, Rafieo still had trouble falling asleep, simply because he hated the feeling of being alone in his bed. Even though there was barely any room in the queen sized bed for the easily over six foot mutant, it felt too big and empty without Mikey’s body against his.
Thinking about Mikey often helped him fall asleep faster. But, as stated previously, his mind tended to wander off topic and kept him awake.
Which is why he was currently pondering about Michael when he had originally started thinking about the orange bandana he was holding.
Which is why he was currently pondering about Michael when he had originally started thinking about the orange bandana he was holding.
Mikey’s favorite color was supposedly orange but only because he wore it. He didn’t like to eat oranges too much—they were fine, Mikey had told him once when Rafieo had asked, but they always made his fingers all sticky and smell funny once he finished eating them. Really though, Mikey didn’t even have a real reason to like orange.
In one of the few memories that Rafieo gained from Raphael that included Mikey in it, he remembered that Raph had even asked what his favorite color was. “I’m not really sure I have one, dude.” Mikey had frowned and popped another piece of popcorn into his mouth. “I suppose I like silver but that’s mainly because of the Silver Sentry. But all of you guys like your colors so much that it makes me feel like I have to like mine too. Seriously, dude, we didn’t even get to choose our colors.” Mikey shrugged. “But whatever; orange is—oh man! No, you idiot, don’t go down the stairs!” he yelled at the television. “But yeah, orange is an energetic and happy color so I guess it does fit me.”
But even if Mikey didn’t really like orange, why was Michael yellow? Was it because yellow was a bad color on Sh’Okanabo’s home planet because it reminded his people of the sun—which apparently ruined their slaves—so he wanted to use it while he could? Or did Mikey secretly like yellow? Or is Michael’s coloring part of why Donald always called him a mistake?
Rafieo often thought about his own skin color. Whether he was red because it was Raphael’s signature color, since he knew blue was his favorite, or because of his anger issues or even another reason he wasn’t even aware of. It confused him.
But Michaels’ coloring really confused him. Why yellow? Why not orange just so Michael could be like the rest of them with their signature ninja colors? Maybe he really was a mistake, right down to his skin.
Rafieo sighed and turned on his side to stare across the mess that was his room now that Mikey practically lived in it as well. His eyes landed on the stack of comic books Mikey had brought over the day before. Mikey had claimed that comics were the perfect way to start learning how to read since you got pictures as well as words.
The newest Superman comic was on top—Rafieo liked him—and the colors on his suit stuck out in his mind. Red, blue, yellow; the three primary colors, he was told. The original colors that, when combined in different combinations, created all the other colors. He was red, Leon was blue, Michael was yellow, and then Donald was purple, a combination of Leon and himself. So was Michael really the mistake or was Donald merely the extra? Was Donald the one that just didn’t belong?
“Yeah,” Rafieo answered himself out loud as he rolled onto his back once more. “I know that one for certain.” He rolled his eyes and then closed them as he rubbed Mikey’s orange mask between his fingers.

Rafieo stared up at the sky as the rain began to die down. “About time,” Rafieo mumbled, “Stupid weather.” With a grunt, he stood up. He hated coming up to the surface. Everyone always looked at him and held their noses. He couldn’t help it that Donald still hadn’t set up any hot water, stupid genius, and their new home was an underground sewer site!
“Stupid turtles, wreckin’ our home,” He kicked at a can and watched as it flew high then landed in another dumpster.
“Meow!” Rafieo jumped, startled at the sudden noise. He looked around but found that he was still alone. Tilting his head to the side, Rafieo kicked another can that was lying around into the dumpster. “Meow!”
“Who’s there?” He growled, clutching his food tighter to his chest as he threw his other hand out in front of him, momentarily forgetting that he was disarmed. When he didn’t receive an answer he crept closer to the other dumpster. “I’m only gonna ask one more time; who’s there?” He warned then finally looked into the dumpster.
Crinkling his brow, Rafieo tried to make something out in the shadowy dumpster but it was too dark for him. Helpfully, the lightening cracked over head, lighting the dumpster enough so Rafieo got a good view of a ball of fluff sitting above all the trash.
“What the shell? I mean, hell, stupid Michael and his stupid habits,” Rafieo mumbled to himself as he stared and reached into the dumpster, hoping that the fluffy ball hadn’t moved. He removed it from the dumpster and looked at it in the slightly lighter alleyway. It was a little orange kitten with a white patch on the top of his head, right between his ears.
Rafieo grimaced and quickly dropped the kitten and his groceries as he gripped his head. He was getting another splitting headache, meaning that something had triggered him to tap into Raphael’s memories again.
“Mikey, I swear if that cat doesn’t stop rubbing his fur all over me, I’m gonna shave the damn thing!” Raph screamed as he drew out his Sais.
“Klunk didn’t mean anything by it, Raph.” Mikey protested as he clutched an orange cat with a white patch on its chest. “Klunk’s just full of affection, even for you, though I don’t know why my sweet kitty is wasting his time.”
Rafieo continued to rub his head as the pain died away. “Not too bad this time,” he analyzed to himself as he felt his headache die down to the normal head pain he was used to.
He stood and scowled as his foot landed on something wet and squishy. “Great,” he grumbled as he lifted his foot and the remains of the bunch of bananas he had stolen. “My food’s all over the place now. Stupid memories,” He grumbled as he picked his bag back up and started to refill it with the stolen goods.
The bananas were ruined and the chips a bit smashed, but everything else seemed fine, except he was missing the salami. “Where did that go to?” He asked and began to search around the alleyway. His eyes finally landed on the salami and the little kitten munching on it.
“Stop that, you mangy mutt!” He yelled as he stormed forward and swiped the salami off the ground. “Great, now theres bite marks in it.” He glared down at the little kitten that stared back up at him and mewed.
“Dumb cat,” He muttered just as a pipe overhead broke and drenched him and the remaining groceries. Rafieo felt his hands began to shake and quickly inhaled and exhaled to calm himself down. It took a lot to make him loose control but he really was having a bad day that seemed to only be getting worse.
“Meow,” Rafieo opened his eyes and looked down at the little kitten that had gotten wet as well. It tried to shake itself dry only to stumble into a puddle. The little kitten sat down in the puddle, looking utterly defeated.
“You’re having a bad night too, ain’t you?” Rafieo asked as he bent down and offered the salami to the kitten. “Here, I don’t want it anymore anyways.”
The kitten began to munch on the large meat once more and Rafieo set the salami down, out of the puddle. The little creature jumped out of the puddle and shook its paws dry, then pounced on the salami to begin taking small bites once more.
Rafieo smiled as he watched the little kitten until an idea hit him. “Hey, do you wanna come with me? My home’s not great, but it’s better than this dumb old place.” Rafieo knelt down and looked at the kitten eagerly. The kitten continued to eat the salami. “Well, you ain’t saying no.” He scooped the kitten up into his and grabbed the salami with his other, holding it at the kitten’s level so it could eat while he walked back home. His groceries were smashed between his arm and chest but they now seemed less important.
“So,” Rafieo poked his head out of the alley to check for any sirens, finding none, he deemed it safe. “What should I call you?” Rafieo asked as he continued to watch the little bundle of fur eat. “I’m not good with names,” he admitted, looking up just in time to stop before he walked into a holographic poster displaying a statue.
“What’s this?” He squinted his eyes and tried to make sense of the words written above the statue but they continued to just look like a bunch of symbols to him.
Rafieo looked around and noticed a small, old lady with blond hair wrapped up into a bun staring up at the building in front of the poster. She was wearing a giant blue outfit that looked like it was three times her size and slowly eating her. “Hey, miss,” Rafieo tapped the old lady’s shoulder. “Can you tell me what that says?”
“Of course I can,” She smiled up at him sweetly and adjusted the thick, square frames on her face. “Darn rain made my eyes hurt and I was forced to wear these even though the prescription is off by now.” She complained to herself as she squinted at the sign. “This says that the famous sculpture from the first Renaissance period, Michelangelo’s David, is going to be on exhibit.”
Rafieo frowned. “David? Isn’t that a person’s name?”
The old lady nodded with a grin. “Yes, Michelangelo was a talented sculptor and his work is known by even people on the outskirts of the universe like me. David was sculpted about King David before he fights Goliath or something like that, I feel asleep during the movie that they made of it. But that statue is seriously unremarkable. If you’ve never seen it before, I suggest you do while it’s still in this town. An inquiring, young man such as yourself would probably enjoy such a site”
“Okay,” Rafieo nodded, taking the lady’s suggestion in with a smile and beaming with the compliment. “Thanks, mam,”
“No problem, young man.” She reached out and patted the kitten’s head as it finally gave up on shoving any more salami into its mouth. “What a cute kitten,” She looked up at Rafieo, “I’m sure your owner is going to take such good care of you.” She waved and walked off.
Rafieo couldn’t help but let his grin widen. “Yes, I am,” he promised the little kitten. “And I’m gonna name you David, ‘cause I remember Donald called me Goliath once, or something like that. Who cares,” Rafieo shrugged and placed the salami into the bag and brought David closer to his chest. “I’m gonna take good care a you, David, just wait and see.”
The little kitten meowed once more and snuggled into Rafieo’s hand as it curled up and closed its eyes. Rafieo hummed to himself and his new friend as he walked home, the sun starting to poke out behind the clouds, making the day seem a little better.

Their Independence Day was when Leon had gathered them all in the warehouse and told them that they no longer answered to Darius Dun. He said that they were returning to their second underground base now that they didn’t have to deal with Dun.
There wasn’t a huge battle, there were no fireworks, and it wasn’t worth recording for some history book. But it gave Rafieo a feeling of freedom, hope, and longing for something better than the life he was use to living. He had been so excited; he had marked the day down on his calendar.
Leon hadn’t expanded on how they were now free; he didn’t tell of a tale of how he risked himself to fight for his brothers’ freedom, he didn’t explain if Dun had been captured by the peace keepers, and he didn’t tell them what they were going to do from then on. He didn’t even say the word ‘free’ when he had told them. But that was the first word to pop into Rafieo’s head.
Rafieo went to his room, a frown on his face and disappointment in his heart. Leon wasn’t anything like George Washington. And they didn’t win their freedom like the Colonies. They didn’t deserve an Independence Day, so Rafieo scribbled July fourth off of the calendar. It was in his past now.
Rafieo had watched a program on television that Donald had left on once, a week before Leon declared them out of Dun’s control. It depicted the history of Independence Day in the United States and it was all Rafieo could think about since Leon told them.
Rafieo had been interested in watching the battles as the underdog Colonies rose to fight the Kingdom of Great Britain. Hearing about how George Washington led the Continental Army to victory and even to defeat in New York City fascinated Rafieo. He couldn’t believe how great of a leader Washington was, that his men decided to follow him even after such a lost.
The program continued to tell about the first Independence Day but Michael had walked in and made fun of him for ‘trying to understand what they’re talking about’ and learning and the other usual remarks he made. Rafieo didn’t feel like arguing his intelligence with his younger brother and had gone to his room to avoid the insults.
He became fascinated in the history of Independence Day and he wanted to know how he had earned his own freedom. He wanted to know the history of it and only Leon knew the story.
“Leon?” Rafieo knocked on his brother’s door one day, daring to disturb the blue turtle. It opened a few minutes later, and Leon glared at him.
“What do you want?” Leon barked and Rafieo had stilled as he realized something. Leon was his leader; Leon was, in essence, his George Washington.
Rafieo suddenly felt nervous as he spoke. It was like he was talking to his hero. “Um, Leon, I was just wondering,” he rubbed at his protruding neck and shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “How did you win our freedom from Dun?”
He was prepared to hear a story just as daring as the program had told. He was ready to listen to Leon’s heroic details of fighting against Dun, even though he knew he didn’t have a chance. Rafieo didn’t expect to hear, “The fat jerk died of a heart attack. I’m pretty sure his body’s still rotting where I left it.” Then Leon slammed the door in his face and that was the end of their history.

Rafieo smiled as he adjusted the items in his hands and fumbled for the doorknob to his room. He was in such a good mood and he didn’t even care that the plastic bag had broken once more, which was why he had to carry all the items by hand. These items were going to make a certain little animal happy and that was going to make him very happy. He loved spoiling David because the cat deserved it.
When he finally managed to get the door open, Rafieo’s grin widened as he felt furry skin brush against his legs, “Hey, David; I got something special for you.” Rafieo shuffled forward and kicked the door shut behind him. “I mean, I stole them, but you know how it is. Besides, you don’t mind, do you?”
David purred as he jumped onto Rafieo’s bed and stretched, his orange fur sticking up slightly on his back. Rafieo dropped the items next to David and clapped his hands together excitedly.
Tears formed in his eyes as he laid down on his bed and clutched the ball tightly in his hands. When he finally ran out of tears to shed, he pushed the little ball underneath his pillow and tried to fall asleep. It took hours and then, when he finally fell into an uneasy sleep, he dreamed about David being in a better place and woke with a slight smile.
“Alright, David,” Rafieo picked up the two matching metal dishes. “I got real food and water dishes for you so we don’t have to use those plastic containers no more.” He grinned as he showed off the shiny metal bowls. David sat up and wrapped his tail around his paws, having it lift up slightly every few moments as Rafieo continued to present him with gifts.
Rafieo shrugged as he held the other two items and then sat them down next to his bed. “Then I also got you a litter box and kitty litter since Leon’s starting to get angry at you and I ain’t going to let him keep yelling at me for it. Now this,” Rafieo grinned once more as he picked up a plastic stick with a string attached to the end that held a furry, sparkly, red ball.
David instantly grew to attention and sat back on his hind legs as he tried to bat at the ball. “Yeah, I thought you’d like this.” Rafieo chuckled as he sat down next to David and began to move the stick from side to side, causing the ball to move as well as David as he batted at the toy.
David instantly grew to attention and sat back on his hind legs as he tried to bat at the ball. “Yeah, I thought you’d like this.” Rafieo chuckled as he sat down next to David and began to move the stick from side to side, causing the ball to move as well as David as he batted at the toy.
“Get it boy,” Rafieo chuckled as he held the toy up higher and forced David to jump for it. David’s ears went flat against his head as he crouched down and sprung into the air only for Rafieo to raise the toy even higher at the last moment.
David mewled as he landed on the edge of the bed and slipped off to land on the floor in a pile. “Ain’t cats supposed to always land on their feet?” Rafieo asked the resented animal.
Of course David’s answer was only to jump back up onto the bed and pounce on the toy before Rafieo had a chance to lift it again. Rafieo grinned and began to tug harder on the toy to try and dislodge it from the cat’s jaw. “Okay, David, you caught it. Now let go so you can play with it again,” Rafieo frowned as he pulled harder but still couldn’t get the cat to let go.
“David,” He growled as the animal began to move backwards, the toy still in his jaw. “Let go of it,” Rafieo ordered as he reached out to try and force the toy out of the animal’s mouth. He grabbed David’s chin and the cat’s paw lashed out to scratch his hand.
Rafieo drew his hand back and grimaced at the fresh scratch marks on his hand. “You damn cat, let go of the toy before you break it.” Rafieo shouted as he again reached out to grab David.
David’s fur stood up on his back and he struck out again with his paw. Rafieo moved his hand before it was hit again and growled as he gripped the string attached to the red ball. He tugged hard on the string and the string snapped.
“Damn it, David, you bad cat, look what you did!” Rafieo yelled as he lifted his hand and swung it down hard to collide with David’s side. The cat yelped as it was flung off of the bed with such force and into the wall with a loud thump.
Rafieo’s eyes widened and he sat, frozen for a moment, simply watching David and waiting for him to move, to show that he was okay. Slowly, he rose and moved over to kneel next to the still form on the floor. The toy ball had rolled out of his mouth and laid inches from his head. His eyes were open, as was his slacked jaw.
“David,” Rafieo hesitated before he reached out and petted the creature’s soft fur. “I’m sorry for hitting you, David, and yelling. You’re not a bad cat, you’re a good cat.” Rafieo insisted as he continued to pet the creature. His chest wasn’t moving.
“David, come on little guy, I can probably retie the string, its okay.” Rafieo smiled as he nudged the animal. “David, get up now,” His smile faltered and his breathing began to become uneven. “David, come on little guy, get up.” He lifted David and sat him on his paws to encourage him to move. Only, he fell back down as soon as Rafieo released him. “David,” his breath hitched, “David, please get up.”
Rafieo’s eyes darted around his room and he picked David up again, cradling him against his chest as he petted his fur repeatedly. “Its okay, David, I’ll ask the others for help. They’ll help you, they will.”
He quickly rushed out of his room and into the main room. Donald was scrounging through the refrigerator while Leon and Michael watched some new reality show. “Guys, something’s wrong with David.” He announced as he walked into the room, still cradling the motionless cat.
Michael’s head instantly perked up. He had been as excited as Rafieo had been about the new pet. “What’s wrong with him?” He asked as he rose from the couch. Leon sighed but stood as well.
“I don’t know,” Rafieo insisted, “I was just showing him all the stuff I got him. Then I was playing with him but he wouldn’t let the toy go and he scratched me then it broke and I hit him and he hit the wall and then he wouldn’t get up.” He quickly explained as he held the cat out for the others to see.
“Rafieo,” Michael frowned as he reached a hand out and smoothed it over David’s fur, tears forming in his eyes. “David’s dead; you killed him.” It wasn’t an accusation, simply a statement but it made Rafieo feel like he had been stabbed.
“No, I,” he brought the cat back to his chest. “I didn’t mean to. He just made me angry ‘cause the toy broke. But I can fix it.” His eyes roamed around the room until they landed on Donald and he ran up to his genius brother.
“Donald, fix him, please, fix David.” Rafieo asked, holding out the dead cat. “Please, fix him.” Donald lifted a brow as he stared at the animal. He grabbed the creature with a sigh and his finger probed up and down David’s stomach.
“Just like I thought,” Donald nodded and handed the corpse back to Rafieo. “You broke his ribs when you smacked him and they punctured his organs. He either died instantly or suffered immensely for a few seconds.” Donald grabbed his glass of orange juice and took a sip from it as Rafieo began to tear up. “Just don’t try and flush it down the toilet when you discard the corpse,” He dismissed as he headed toward his room.
Rafieo fell to his knees as he gently placed David’s body on the floor and began to stroke his fur. He whimpered as his tears started to fall from his eyes. “I’m sorry, David,” he apologized, “I didn’t mean to kill you. I’m so sorry,”
A hand landed on his shoulder and he looked up, wiping at his eyes as he stared at Leon. “Its okay, Rafieo, it was just another accident.” Leon tried to comfort him with a smile. “Do you want me to burry him?”
Rafieo shook his head and picked up David’s body. “I’ll do it,” he headed to the door and only turned around when he heard Michael ask Leon a question.
“Can we get another kitty?” Rafieo scowled and hurried out of the room, slamming the door behind him. He didn’t want another cat; there was only one David. Besides, he would probably end up making another mistake and killing that cat too.
“I’m so sorry, David,” he apologized yet again only for David to continue not to respond, being dead and all. Rafieo slowly began the trek through the large sewer systems to the opening they used on the outskirts of a giant park. He figured that would be the perfect spot to burry David since it was pretty there and usually secluded.
He wiped at his eyes before he opened the hatch and carefully looked around. It was mid-afternoon and close to winter so the air was chilly and the sky cloudy; the perfect opportunity to have alone time in a park.
Rafieo closed the hatch as he jumped out and walked over to a small patch of freshly laid dirt. He dug a large hole with one hand as he continued to hold David in his other. When he deemed the hole large enough he laid David’s body in the dirt. The sight of the orange kitten surrounded by dirt and unmoving made it official to him; David really was dead.
He would no longer walk into his room and feel David’s soft fur rub against his legs. There would be nothing warm sleeping on top of him anymore. But worst of all, he’d have no one left to complain to that gave him the answers he wanted. He’d no longer have someone waiting for him and willing to be around him at any time of the day. He had lost his only friend.
Rafieo started to cry again, soft sobs escaping him as he reached into the grave and touched David’s furry head one last time before he started throwing the dirt over him, covering the little cat. When the hole was filled once more Rafieo looked around for some kind of grave marker. He found a rock as big as his fist and decided that worked.
“Goodbye, David,” he whispered as he went back to his lonely sewer. The walk home took longer since he dragged his feet half the way. When he entered their lair, Michael was the only one about and he was too busy watching something to even notice Rafieo as he went into his room.
Rafieo sat down on his bed and looked at the new cat items at his feet. He suddenly grew angry and picked all the items up. He slammed his door open, denting his wall with an imprint of the doorknob and threw all the items out of his room at the adjacent wall. Michael shouted something from the main room and Leon poked his head out of his room only to sigh.
Rafieo didn’t care though. He had lost his best friend and he didn’t want anything to remind him of the little cat.
Slamming his door shut once more, he glanced around his room, searching for anything else that would remind him of David. That’s when his eyes fell on the little red ball lying on the floor. Slowly, Rafieo stumbled over to the broken toy and he gently picked the item up.
Tears formed in his eyes as he laid down on his bed and clutched the ball tightly in his hands. When he finally ran out of tears to shed, he pushed the little ball underneath his pillow and tried to fall asleep.
