Cars were against the law. Having a car gave someone the feeling that they were able to get away. Cars meant technology, technology meant being smart, knowledge was power, and any power that wasn’t Shredder was seen as being disobedient.
But Raphael had never listened to rules before. Why would he start listening to the Shredder’s?
He now, more than ever, looked religiously after his bike. It was all that he had left of Donnie, after all. The only thing left of the happy days. The Shellcycle was the most precious thing left in the world, in his opinion. Too valuable to even ride; Raph couldn’t risk driving his bike around, it would be shot at and any damage done would be too much for him to repair.
Raph planned on keeping it perfect until his last day. When he finally had enough of the shitty life he was currently stuck living, he was going to get on his baby, rev the engine loudly, and drive through the city, shouting. It would be loud and rash; it would be how he used to live his life; it would be suicide. It was how he wanted to go.
In an alleyway, a few years after Don’s disappearance, he found a hidden storage system. That’s where the Shellcycle sat; waiting for him, waiting for its last ride. When he went into that alley, to check on his last bit of hope, he felt like he was visiting a graveyard. The Shellcycle was practically dead aside from the one night that it would rise from the grave and carry Raph to the afterworld.
Raph felt like the back alley was a fitting place for a burial site for his beloved bike. After all, it was more than what they were able to give Don. His brother never got a headstone. He idly wondered if he ever would.
It would be nice, he decided, but he figured there would be no point. No one would visit his death site like he constantly visited the back alley or how Mike and April visited their sensei’s.

He was never one for religion. In fact, Raphael never even saw the point of the stupid human tradition of asking some higher being to grant a favor that no one deserved or was going to get.
But when he saw the battered down church with the demolition sign posted on its door, he thought he might as well give it a shot. April had always believed in miracles, after all, and she never placed her belief in stupid ideas.
Quietly, he strolled into the place after breaking the door down. He realized he had to be respectful in the supposedly holy place. Maybe he shouldn’t have broken the door down after all. Raph shrugged his shoulders to himself, the deed done already, and walked down the center of the building until the red carpet he had followed stopped at a set of two raised levels and platforms.
Raph stared at the large table before him and looked up. Nailed to the wall was a giant cross. He knelt down and stared at the cross. He could tell that the cross used to shine a golden color but was now covered in dust.
“Please,” he whispered, his soft voice echoing in the room. The city was always quiet at night now. “Please,” he asked again, desperation in his voice as he pressed his hands together. “Please, whoever’s up there,” he lifted his head and stared through one of the many holes in the ceiling into the night sky. “Please, bring Donnie back.”
His echo was the only reply he got.
Title: Waiting

“We waited for you,” Leo’s voice surprised Don. He turned around, his grip tightening on the picture frame. It was the only picture Don had been able to find in the hideout and it was of his family. His old family, the one he felt like he had only left behind a day ago but in reality was thirty years. Four happy green faces surrounding a proud gray, furry one.
“We kept waiting for you to come back. Splinter,” Leo’s voice grew softer as he slowly trekked forward. “Father had the greatest belief that if we just waited, you would return to us. But after he,” Leo trailed off as he carefully reached out. Don handed him the picture frame and watched as Leo’s hands ran over the smooth glass. He wondered if Leo knew what the picture was since he could no longer see. “None of us could continue to wait any longer. We had to move on.”
“I’m sorry,” Don felt like all he could do was apologize even if it was for a crime he hadn’t really committed.
“You sound like you haven’t aged a day.” Leo handed the frame back and pulled off a glove. He started to reach for Don’s face but froze, hand hovering in front of Don’s beak. “May I?” He asked permission to view his brother the only way he was able to ever since he had lost his voice.
“Of course,” Don stepped forward and nuzzled his head into the hand.
Leo’s breath escaped him in a soft sigh as he read Don’s un-aged face. The smooth yet oily skin of a teenager felt familiar under Leo’s knowing hands as he traced softly over Don’s mouth up to his mask to gently slide it off. He thumbed the small crease between Don’s eyes that had grown over years of his curiosity and thinking making him squint in wonder.
“You’re still beautiful,” Leo smiled sadly. “I,” he carefully chose his words again. “When I had first lost my sight, my biggest regret was that, if you did return, I wouldn’t get the chance to see you again. Now you’re back and I only have the memory of your image and your skin under my hand to remind me of your beauty.”
Don frowned and stepped forward, running his hands under Leo’s jacket. “I’m sorry,” he whispered again.
Leo wrapped his arms around Don and held him tightly to his chest. “It was worth the wait to finally have you back.”
