Title: Penguin Adventures 11-20
Author: Jordan Herbert
Pairing: Hints of Rico/Kowalski and Skipper/Private
Fandom: Penguins of Madagascar
Rating: Pg-13 for this batch
Word Count: 2,586
Warning: Homosexual relationships, human!verse, and AU
Disclaimer: I do not own these characters and that makes me sad sometimes until I realize I can still write using them. Yay!
Author's Note: Okay, I actually got some slash in these ten, not all of them, but hints at eventual pairings come into play here. Also, for some reason I really want to picture Rico as being Russian but he totally seems more of a Hispanic background, especially his name, and since this is my AU I'll make him be both. His mother was Hispanic, maybe Peruvian so he can have Incan blood connections, and his father was Russian and he only knows Russian, some Spanish when his mother got angry, so Spanish curses. So, yeah, I believe he doesn't speak so much because he's still learning this language and it's damn hard. Also he has a speak impediment too so that just makes him not want to talk even more. I love Rico. Also, parts 1-10 can be found here.
Exotic
Madagascar’s exotic fauna and flora were becoming regular sights for the Penguins considering that they spent months at a time on the foreign island. The self proclaimed “Party King” of the island often hired the private team for his own selfish purposes. The only reason the four put up with the obnoxious requests to play bodyguard or whatever else he fancied was that “King” Julien was responsible for half of their funding and the team didn’t even know where the other half came from.
“What is it this time?” Skipper had long since stopped trying to be polite to the other man.
“A group of the hostile commoners have threatened my upcoming party!” Julien announced worriedly. “They are accusing me of spending a ridiculousness amount of the monies on my parties but that is being absurd! I spend the monies on much more ridiculousness things.” Julien smiled, looking very pleased with himself. “Besides, the monies are belonging to me so I am pleased to do with them as I am pleasing.” He crossed his arms over his chest. “I do not wish to be spending the monies on boring things like commoners and taxes and donationing.”
“Are you sure that these commoners are threatening your party? Because if you aren’t paying taxes, then they might just be workers of the country coming to collect what you owe,” Kowalski explained.
Maurice, one of the hired men that had the unfortunate task of working for Julien, whispered to Kowalski. “We make sure his taxes are paid to avoid trouble with the country, it’s not like he notices if the extra amount of money is gone or not anyways.”
Kowalski nodded in understanding even as Skipper sighed and looked at his men. “And you want us to stop these people from ruining your party and hurting your guests? So this is another bodyguard mission, then?”
“Yes, that works too. I was simply inviting you all to the party. But this sounds better as a plan.” Julien decided amongst the groans of the four.
Commitment
Commitment
Despite all the traveling that the team did, the four found that they all enjoyed living in New York the best. They had three different HQs located in the world, but the one in New York felt the most like home despite that none of them were actually from New York. Maybe it was the fact that the four were able to act more like citizens in New York, spending their free time in the city as they pleased.
Kowalski was able to visit the museums and historical sites. Rico would often tag along with Kowalski to an art museum or else he would wander around the city on his own. Private liked to visit the park and the zoo located in the center. Skipper, on the other hand, rarely went out but when he did, he would always return late the next morning smelling of a different perfume.

“Does he have a girlfriend in town?” Private asked Kowalski one night after Skipper had already left.
“Nope,” Kowalski shook his head. “Skipper is rather afraid of commitment. He only has brief one night affairs. New York just happens to be one of the easiest places for those types of women, huh, Rico?” Kowalski smiled knowingly.
Rico glared and grumbled something under his breath.
Private frowned as he looked at Rico. “Rico, you don’t really catch me as a one night stand fellow.”
“’M not,” Rico growled. “Few girlfriends,” he shrugged and fiddled with his deck of cards.
“Oh please, you saw that girl three times at the very most. She does not count as a girlfriend.” Kowalski argued. “You’re just as bad as Skipper with women.”
“Doris,” Rico crossed his arms over his chest, staring at Kowalski in challenge.
Kowalski frowned. “Okay, yes, I’m bad with women too, but in a different sense.”
“Who’s Doris, K’walski?” Private asked.
“She was the love of my life,” Kowalski sighed unhappily. Rico rolled his eyes and stood from the table, leaving the room. “Things just, well, didn’t work out between us.”
“Why not?” Private sympathetically patted Kowalski on the shoulder.
“Well, to start off, everything I told her about myself was practically a lie.” Kowalski explained. “We can’t very well go around and give citizens personal information that could end up endangering them.”
“Oh,” Private frowned. “So, our job kinda makes us all have commitment issues, huh?”
Lesson
Lesson
Kowalski looked down at the coupon in his hand and frowned as he stared at the dance studio. He had a bad feeling about this but really, one free lesson couldn’t hurt too much, could it? Taking a deep breath, Kowalski stepped into the room. He wasn’t surprised to see that he was the only guy in the class. The women all smiled at him as he made his way into a corner and began to stretch.
“Oh good, we finally will have two guys.” The instructor smiled as she pulled her hair up into a ponytail. “If that other one actually shows up this time,” she muttered.
“I’m, um, only here for a free lesson really.” Kowalski admitted as he handed her his coupon.
“Well, I hope you enjoy the class enough to sign up for it.” The instructor took the coupon from his hand, brushing her fingers over his own with a smile.
“’Walski?” Kowalski tensed at hearing his real name and turned slowly to see Rico standing in the doorway with a large grin on his face.
“Oh, Rico, did you bring the new guy?” The instructor asked as Rico crossed the room to Kowalski’s area.
Rico shook his head at the girl as he looked at Kowalski. “Rico, what are you doing here?”
Rico smirked and suddenly grabbed Kowalski’s hands and began to lead him into a short dance, stepping around in a pattern before twirling Kowalski and dipping him with a grin as Kowalski was literally swept off his feet. “Dance.”
“Oh,” Kowalski’s cheeks blushed as Rico righted him. “So this is where you’ve been disappearing to for so long?” Kowalski asked as he cleared his throat.

“Yep,” Rico pressed a finger to Kowalski’s lips and shushed him. “Secret,” he motioned around the room and then between the two of them.
“Right, okay, this can just be our little secret then.” Kowalski quickly agreed and ignored the heat still in his cheeks at Rico’s touch.
Policy
Policy
“What’s our policy, boys?” Skipper asked as he paced in front of the three soldiers at attention before him.
“Um,” Kowalski frowned and looked over at Private. “I’m not sure.”
Private shifted and tapped his chin as he thought before sighing. “I don’t know. Rico?”
“I ‘unno.” Rico shrugged.
Skipper stopped and looked at the three. “Yeah, we don’t actually have one yet. Kowalski, work on making us a good policy.” Kowalski saluted accordingly.
Lie
Lie
Private’s face was red from the combination of blushing so much and also due to the alcohol in his system. He laughed as Skipper finished his story and then turned to look at him. “So, how about you, Private?”
“Oh, um, well, my first time was with my high school sweetheart. She didn’t have the biggest knockers or anything, but she sure was beautiful in my eyes.” Private offered, looking around at the three expectantly.
“That was boring.” Skipper commented.
“But romantic, I suppose.” Kowalski shrugged as he took another sip of his beer. “My first time,” Kowalski chuckled, “that was just a disaster.”
Private listened as Kowalski began to talk about his awkward first time. He was glad that no one seemed to realize his lie.
Shower
Shower
Rico liked to believe that he was a tough macho man. He spent countless amounts of hours at the gym perfecting his body to match his thoughts of exactly what a tough macho man looked like. He also tried to always act tough despite his sensitive side.
One thing he refused to do was ever show weakness in front of his teammates. He shrugged off injuries as though they were only cuts. He ignored any hurtful comments or responded to them with a dangerous grin that usually made the person talking instantly fall quiet. And he never cried before his team, never.
Private cried after particularly horrible missions, when he was seriously hurt, or during a really sad movie. They would all tease Private over the last one but the British man ignored their jabs and continued to be too caught up in the plot, talking out a fake happy ending to make himself feel better.
Kowalski would tear up on a trip home from the dreadful missions where he had to actually kill another. He would lock himself in his lab and try to smother his cries despite the others knowing exactly what he was doing.
Even Skipper had broken down when they had lost Manfredi and Johnson. It had been heartbreaking to watch their leader curse the sky while tears had rolled down his face.
But no one on the team had ever seen Rico cry before. He would hold in all of the emotions he felt until he stood underneath the shower, hot or cold water spraying down on his face, it never mattered to him, and he would let his tears mix in with the streaming water until he was done.
Intellectual
Intellectual
Looking up when hearing the cleared throat, Rico smiled knowingly as Kowalski shifted in the doorway of his bedroom. “Uh, hey, Rico, I, um, restocked the supply of dynamite, smoke bombs, grenades, and revamped the rocket launcher and bazooka.” Kowalski declared with a soft smile as he rubbed at the back of his neck. “They now can fire from fifty feet farther with still perfect accuracy.”
Rico sat up from his bed and patted the now empty space invitingly. Kowalski grinned back and sat down on the bed. “Thanks, Rico.” He bowed his head as Rico began to rub and knead at his shoulders, working the kinks and knots out of the area. “Your hands are magical,” Kowalski moaned as Rico worked an especially tough knot out of his neck.
“Uh-huh.” Rico chuckled. He loved when he was able to make the intellectual melt under his hands.
He had asked Kowalski once to help him with restocking the ammo, since it was such a pain of a task, and had found the tall man hunched over his desk looking stressed as he worked on weapon after weapon. Rico had just started to massage Kowalski’s shoulders then, without being asked, and had startled the other man at first. Rico wasn’t really known for physical contact with the others much unless during practice. But Kowalski had relaxed under Rico’s hands in a matter of minutes. It had become somewhat of a routine for Rico to give Kowalski a good, long shoulder rub after restocking the ammo supply as a way of saying thanks.
Rico started to finish up his ministrations around Kowalski’s neck, gently rubbing his thumbs up and down the area of the spine and making Kowalski moan in pleasure. He loved touching the surprisingly smooth skin of Kowalski’s neck. It was why he always saved it for last. He often wondered if the rest of Kowalski’s skin was just as smooth and soft to the touch.
Deciding
Deciding
“You can’t take so long making this decision, Private!” Skipper scolded as he urged the other to hurry. “You need to decide now.” He pressured.
Private looked panicked. “I can’t pick, Skippa! It’s too much for me.”
“Come on, Private, if you can’t decide on something now, how are you going to make a decision when it really counts?” Skipper asked.
Frowning, Private looked up at Rico and Kowalski. “Alright, I’ve decided; we’ll get snow cones.”
Rico shouted in glee and hurried towards the door. Skipper slapped Private on the back. “Good choice, Private. Alright, men, let’s move out.”
Kowalski chuckled. “Going to go out later to pick up some butterscotch lollies with your own paycheck?”
“Yeah, sometimes you have to make sacrifices for the team.” Private sighed as he followed Kowalski out the door.
Suppression
He felt like he was back in high school. Despite finally accepting his sexual orientation years ago, it had taken Private a while to find the courage and actually come out. He had suppressed his feelings all throughout high school, being careful so that no one would figure it out.
Biological
Rico sighed as he looked from one book to the other. They were bigger than any book he had read in his native language, let alone in English. He only read comic books and the rare newspaper article if it caught his interest.
And yet Kowalski had book upon book filled with information that the intellectual seemingly had memorized. Rico wondered if, out of all the answers held within the books, he could possibly figure out why he was so in love.
“We just finished our latest prank war, Rico.” Kowalski sighed as he entered his lab and spotted Rico. “And if you were going to pull some sort of prank I would request not using any of those books. They’re rather expensive and some of the most useful books I have.” Kowalski explained as he pulled one book off of the shelf and gently caressed the cover with a wistful look.
“Nah,” Rico shrugged and grabbed another book off the shelf, quickly flipping it open to a random page. He stared at the page and frowned as he grabbed his head. Way too many words.
Kowalski’s soft chuckle made Rico look up and meet his gaze. “I don’t think a biology book really matches your interests, especially this one since it goes into great detail about the human body and how exactly we work. Although, you might enjoy the section on different sensitive body areas; it’s useful for learning pressure points.” Kowalski flipped through the book. “I think it was after the chapter on the human brain but before genetics.”
“Ge-whatics?” Rico murmured as he stared at the pages flipping by.
“Genetics, the basic makeup of humans, the code of the human body. Most things can be explained by genetics; hair color, body shape, sexual orientation, eye color, and even--” Kowalski blinked as Rico quickly grabbed the book from his hands and started out of the lab.
“Um, just return that when you’re done then, okay?” Kowalski called after the fleeting form.

He felt like he was back in high school. Despite finally accepting his sexual orientation years ago, it had taken Private a while to find the courage and actually come out. He had suppressed his feelings all throughout high school, being careful so that no one would figure it out.
Then he had enrolled in the British army and had been swept off his feet by love right away. It had been enough for him to finally realize how bad suppressing his feelings was. He had admitted to his crush how he had felt and was fortunate enough to experience his first boyfriend.
He was unfortunately faced with his boyfriend’s death only weeks later. He had never felt so strongly for another, until he met Skipper.

For awhile he had thought, and hoped, that he was just feeling like a child would towards a hero; admiration and appreciation. But it didn’t take long for Private to determine that his feelings were much more than that.
Private would hold onto every word Skipper said to him like it was the most precious thing in the world. He would secretly swoon at every touch he received from Skipper, even while they trained. But every time Skipper returned in the morning, smelling like perfume with a satisfied look in his eye, Private would know exactly why his feelings needed to be suppressed once more.
