smallfandomfest prompt: Mpreg freak out. Also, this will probably expand into something bigger, some day.
They had both been drunk. Really, incredibly drunk. So drunk that the Earth hadn’t stopped spinning even when they had woken up the next day.
After saving the world from Rasputin, the B.P.R.D had thrown a party in the demon’s honor. It was a way of saying thanks and to enjoy a night after all the strife and lives lost due to Rasputin. Hellboy had drank an entire keg by himself and then challenged anyone and everyone to go shot for shot with him, although his shot glass was a normal sized glass.
Manning had allowed the party but wanted nothing to do with it. Liz had retired early from the party, claiming that dying was a tiring thing. Abe had left the party because he had become bored with the drunken conversations. John had stayed and taken Hellboy up on his challenge.
They were both regretting it.
“What happened after we played Twister, Boy Scout?” Hellboy asked as he chugged his second water bottle and tossed one to John as the human exited the bathroom.
John greedily drank as he tried to rid his mouth from the awful aftertaste of puke. “We played strip poker.”
“Just you and me?” Hellboy asked.
“Yeah,” John rubbed at his eyes as he pulled on his pants. He had woken up naked and sharing a bed with Hellboy. He had instantly rushed for his boxers sitting on the floor and had then proceeded to rush to the bathroom.
“That’s kinda, well, gay of us.” Hellboy grimaced.
“It’s kinda really dumb of us,” John corrected. “Actually, the entire night was kinda dumb of me. I should have known not to drink that much.”
“So what happened after that?” Hellboy asked.
“You don’t remember?” John questioned back. Hellboy shook his head negatively and John frowned. “I don’t really remember either. I think we both just passed out.” He groaned and held his head. “I’m going to spend the rest of the day puking my guts out now.” He waved at Hellboy as he pushed the vault open and left to his own rooms.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“That’s not funny, Abe.” John’s eyes were wide as he stared at the ground.
“I’m not trying to be humorous,” Abe patted the human on the shoulder.
“But there has to be some other explanation. Maybe I’m suffering from food poisoning?” Myers suggested hopefully.
“Although food poisoning does have a tendency to last for a long period of time, it normally doesn’t last for a month and bloating is not a symptom.” Abe ran his hand over John’s stomach once more. “You are baring a demon’s child. Or, more specifically, a quarter demon child is inside you.”
“I can’t believe we had sex. I can’t believe I had sex with Hellboy. I can’t believe I’m pregnant with Hellboy’s child. I thought I was done being surprised with this job.” John held his head as he began to panic. “What am I going to do?”
“Well, I’m sure once we explain the situation to Hellboy and Liz,” Abe started to suggest but was cut off by a desperate noise bubbling out of John’s throat.
“No! We can’t tell them. Liz and Hellboy are finally getting along.” John sighed. “I don’t want to come between them again.”
“This isn’t something you can really hide, John.” Abe informed. “You will be showing soon and your temperament during this process will rapidly change. Not to mention when you will need to have the surgery in order to get the child out and once the child is actually here. It will be rather hard to explain the sudden appearance of a demon child, especially if it has a striking resemblance to Hellboy.”
“Maybe I’ll luck out and it’ll look like me? Maybe I can just hide for the next few months?” John’s eyes widened as he spoke his thoughts aloud. “No, I have a better idea, I can take a vacation. No one will ever know then.”
“John, most doctors out there would not be able to help you on your delivery day and we are still uncertain as to what sort of side effects having a demon pregnancy might bring about. It would be unwise for you to leave the Bureau in your condition.” Abe informed.
“In what condition?” Hellboy asked as he meandered into the library. He frowned as he noticed John staring at him with wide eyes and a rather pale complexion. “Ah, crud,” he looked at Abe, “what’s going on now?”
“Doctor, patient confidentiality, I’m afraid.” Abe stated and wandered over to a table, closing one of the books he had been using as reference and placed it back on the shelf.
Hellboy narrowed his eyes and turned his gaze to John. “Boy Scout, what’s going on?” A small noise made it pass John’s lips before John stood and rushed out of the library. “Myers?” Hellboy called after him with a frown. “Come on, Abe, what’s going on?”
Abe shook his head. “I really can’t tell you, HB. It’s something John must tell you, if he decides to.”
“Is he dying?” Hellboy asked, his voice a soft whisper of concern.
“He probably wishes that he was.” Abe sighed and went back into his tank, ignoring Hellboy’s confused looks and questions.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“That’s it,” John sighed and slammed the book down on the desk. “Why do you keep staring at me like that, HB? It’s really starting to annoy me.”
Hellboy smirked and puffed out another ring of smoke from his cigar. “Sorry, Myers, but I couldn’t help but notice that you’re starting to lose your pretty boy figure.”
“What?” John asked, teeth clenched tightly.
“You’re starting to get fat, Scout,” Hellboy teased lightly.
Without thinking, John picked up the book and chucked it at the half-demon. Hellboy blocked his face and was about to yell when John started to scream first. “It’s your fault!” He accused loudly, making Abe and Liz look up from the other side of the library from their own attempts at research.
“What?” It was Hellboy’s time to ask as he frowned. “How the hell is it my fault that you’re getting chubby? If anything, I help keep you in shape since you’re always chasing after me on missions.”
“It’s your fault because--” John bit down on his tongue and clenched his hands against the desk. “Because of the stress you cause me. The stress is making me eat extra and that’s making me put on a few pounds, yes. I’d rather you not mention it anymore, please.” He requested, his voice tightly clipped.
“Just put down the donuts and hit the treadmill for a few weeks, Myers. Nothing to get so touchy about.” Hellboy scoffed as he picked up the book that had been thrown at him. He flipped it open to a random page and smirked. “I found our guy.” He called down to Abe as he stood from his chair and went over to the others with the book.
John frowned and placed his hand over his slightly protruding stomach. He really couldn’t hide this for much longer. He needed to do something.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“You have to tell him,” Abe pressured. “He may not seem concerned, but that really is just a front. He considers you a friend, John, and we don’t have the opportunities to have many of those. He keeps asking me about you.”
“I just can’t tell him or Liz, Abe. I just can’t.” John shook his head. “There is just no polite way to randomly blurt out that I’m pregnant with Hellboy’s bastard child.”
Liz’s camera dropped to the ground as she stood in the library’s doorway. “Well,” Liz stated once she closed her gaping mouth. “That certainly explains some things.”
“Liz,” John started, “I’m sorry. It only, it was just one time and we were both really drunk. I don’t even remember it and, I’m so, so sorry.”
“John, it’s okay, really,” she paused for a moment, “I think. I mean, it’s not like you went out of your way to try and get pregnant by my boyfriend to ruin our relationship.”
“Of course not.” John quickly shook his head. “I never imagined this happening, I never wanted this to happen!”
“Right, and, like I said, this certainly explains why you’ve been acting so different lately, especially around Hellboy. So, when is the baby due?” Liz asked.
“In about five months,” John frowned and placed his hand on his stomach.
“Do you know the gender or anything yet? Like if it has horns or not?” Liz questioned as she came over and sat down next to John and Abe. The three spent the night talking and John found it nice to let one more person know about the burden he was carrying.
_-_-_-_-_-_-_-
“What? Why?” Hellboy bellowed, angrily looking around the room.
“It’s just temporary, HB,” Liz assured her boyfriend as she placed a hand on his knee. “John just needs some rest.”
“It’s better for him to handle this type of job for a few months.” Abe informed. “He has a lot of stress right now and he doesn’t need missions or any chance of injury to add to his stress.”
“But why is he so stressed?” Hellboy asked. Liz and Abe quickly shared a look and Hellboy pointed an accusing finger at them. “What was that look for?” His tail swished angrily behind him. “There’s something you aren’t telling me.” He growled out. “And I’m going to get to the bottom of it. Where is Myers? Is he getting comfy at his new desk job?” He growled as he stood and headed out of his room.
It didn’t take him long to find John’s new office and barge into the room. Myers slowly stood up with a few papers in his hand as his other hand pressed against his lower back in an action of minor additional support. Hellboy’s anger quickly faded as he stared at John’s startled yet tired face. Then it clicked.
The extra weight, the new baggy clothes to go with the extra pounds, the sudden and short outbursts or funks that would take over John’s normal moods, the constant throwing up in the morning after delivering Hellboy’s food, and the more careful, boring desk job.
“How the hell did you get knocked up, Myers?” Hellboy asked eloquently as he stared at the human. “You’re a guy. Guys can only get pregnant with demons.”
“Yeah, I learned that the hard way.” John sighed. “Know any demons or half demons around here, HB?” John asked sarcastically as he sat down with a groan and started to look over the papers he had picked up.
Hellboy’s mouth hung open for a few moments before he remembered how to work his jaw. “I thought you didn’t remember that night though.”
“You remember it?” John accused. “You told me you didn’t remember it!”
“I lied,” Hellboy shrugged. “We were both really drunk, Myers, and I didn’t want it to make things weird between us. I didn’t think you’d get knocked up though.”
“Yeah well guess how surprised I was when I had to have Abe tell me how I got pregnant.” John rubbed at his eyes.
“So,” Hellboy shifted from one foot to the other. “What do we do from here? I mean, should I rub your feet or should I just leave you alone for the next few months?” Hellboy smiled softly and John mirrored the expression.
“Are you really offering to rub my feet? Because that sounds pretty awesome right now.” John toed off his shoes and wiggled his toes invitingly.
“As long as you don’t puke on me, my baby mama.” Hellboy smirked as John’s face fell and he bent over, picking up his shoe, before throwing it as Hellboy with a chuckle.
“Do not start calling me that! Boy Scout is a bad enough nickname.” John stated.
“You don’t like Boy Scout?” Hellboy frowned slightly.
“Well, I don’t really mind it too much. I mean, Superman gets called Boy Scout sometimes.” John shrugged his shoulders.
“Are you going to make our child a comic book nerd too? ‘Cause we might have some issues then raising this kid.” Hellboy joked.
“Like you’re one to talk about raising children, HB.” John scoffed. “You can barely raise kittens.”
“I raise kittens without any problems!” Hellboy argued.
“Two out of three never learn how to properly use the litter box unless someone else teaches them to.” John pointed out.
“Then you get to handle toilet training when the time comes.” Hellboy grinned as John laughed softly.
“You’re handling this really well, HB. I kinda expected you to freak out. Finding out that you’re suddenly a father is usually a pretty big moment.” John commented.
Hellboy shrugged. “I’m not really surprised by anything that happens anymore. I’m used to all of it so I just take it as it comes and roll with it.”
John smiled as he rubbed his stomach. “I think this could work out.”
“Why wouldn’t it?” Hellboy asked as he crowded over the desk and held his hand over John’s. “So he won’t have the most normal family but normal is boring anyways.” Hellboy shrugged. “Besides, the kid will have a step-mommy, his awesome father, his know it all uncle, and a caring daddy; what more does it really need?”
“She,” John corrected with a smile.
Hellboy’s face lit up. “She’s going to be one lucky little girl to be born into our family.”
“Yeah,” John looked down at his stomach, “she really will be.”
