I always see a few of these things every year but I've never actually done it myself. I'm going to give it a go now because it really does just seem like a lot of fun.
Apparently, this was started about six years ago by someone named
tartanshell. Her guidelines and my list are below.
Guidelines:
Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
My list (in no order of preference):
1. Feedback on any story I've written, old or new. I love getting feedback, even if it's just a comment on a fic that I wrote two years ago saying "I read this fic and I loved it!" Feel free to leave it on stories you've already left a comment on too. Maybe you noticed something you missed reading it the first time or there's a new fic I posted that reminds you of the other one.
2. My Flist and rlFriends to have a happy and safe holiday season and start of a new year.
3. I'd love fanart for any fic or series that I've written. Or even cover art. Even if it's two stick figures with name tags lol.
4. For my friends to just post with new fics or art of any kind and/or pairing. Seriously, I miss reading/viewing such precious things.
5. A fanmix to go along with any fic or series that I've written, 'cause I'm a music whore.
6. Silly .gifs or beautiful pictures or anything in between to be posted to this entry. I love things like that.
7. The new TMNT series to not be a disappointment.
8. Recs of any good TMNT/Hellboy/Sladin/Clex/Whatever pairing I really like fics and have not read before. I'm always looking for a good new story to read of my fandoms and pairings but they're getting harder and harder to find as the fandoms slowly start to die out or just become quiet.
9. I'd really love for Glee to stop ignoring character development but that would truly take a holiday miracle and I wouldn't want to waste one of those since it'd bad enough I wasted a spot on this wishlist for such an impossible task.
10. Encouragement/Motivation to finish some fics. I have too many partly written out or halfway done or even some with most of the fic done except for an ending. Plotbunnies or muse or anything, kick my butt into gear on these.

(Btw, what does it say about me that the first photo of me I put on LJ and let you guys see is this one?)

Or, maybe, that I just don't have any sense of self-preservation. ;)
No, seriously, you have to give some of yourself. At least to people you like and trust. :)
(Also, Spam sucks.)

Re: Number 3
Date: 2011-01-02 10:10 am (UTC)How about this, for number ten? I'll draw you something for the next (up to fifteen) PG-13 or lower non-pairing or het TMNT fics you write. Provided you finish them before... uh... does Easter sound reasonable? Or should I pick something in the summer so your classes are over?
That'll get you writing and me actually drawing seriously again.
