The credits for Frankenstein rolled on the television for a moment before the suddenly quiet room came to life again.

“It’s not the book but I think they did a really good job with that.” Leo commented first.

“Yeah, I was really surprised that they were able ta make Robert De Niro so ugly lookin’. I mean, he’s pretty attractive, fer a human.” Raph agreed.

“That was so scary.” Mikey whined in Rafieo’s lap.

Raph snorted, “Yer such a baby, Mike.” He stood and stretched his arms over his head. “Well, I’m beat. Come on, Fearless, let’s head up ta bed.”

“No, you guys can’t leave.” Mikey protested. “You have to watch another movie with us. Please,” Mikey pouted, jutting his lower lip out as he allowed his baby blue eyes to shine. “We can watch Monty Python.”

Raph sighed and sat back down on the couch. “So much fer an early turn in; pop the movie in, Mikey.”

“Yay,” Mikey cheered and bounced off of Rafieo’s lap to set up the DVD player.

“Yo, Rafieo, where ya goin’, buddy?” Raph asked as Rafieo silently retreated toward Mikey’s bedroom.

“Rafieo?” Mikey frowned and turned around just in time to see his door slam shut. “What just happened?” Mikey asked, staring accusingly at Raph.

“I didn’t do anything.” Raph scowled. “He just sulked away.”

“Why would he do that?” Leo asked as he frowned and stared at the closed door.

Just then, Donnie walked into the lair and froze at seeing all of his brothers staring toward him. “I thought I was quiet when I came in.”

“You’re just getting back from Leatherhead’s now?” Leo frowned and checked the time. “You’re half an hour late, Don.” He accused.

“Sorry, Leo, we were watching Frankenstein on HBO.” Don apologized sheepishly as he shifted his duffle bag off of his shoulder and sat it on the kitchen table as he got a drink out of the refrigerator.

“What a coincidence, we just finished watching Frankenstein as well.” Mikey informed.

Don opened a bottle of water and quickly gulped a quarter of the bottle down. “It was a rather long movie; what has Rafieo been doing?” He asked.

“Rafieo watched it with us, of course.” Mikey frowned. “Why would I exclude Rafieo from movie night?”

“Are you kidding me?” Don asked, slightly outraged. “Please, please tell me you did not let your emotionally damaged boyfriend watch a movie practically dictating his life.” Don slapped his forehead as he received three blank stages.

“Think about it for a moment.” Don seethed. “The creature was born in a lab, forsaken by his creator, and thought of being nothing more than a hideous, dumb monster for most of it’s life. Rafieo went through the same thing. Sh’Okanabo created Rafieo in some sort of lab, abandoned him to Darius, and his brothers all thought that he was just big, dumb, and ugly.” Don frowned as he saw the realization finally light Mikey’s eyes.

“Oh, Rafieo,” Mikey cried out and hurried to his bedroom. “Puppy,” Mikey frowned as he closed the door softly behind him. Rafieo had his arms wrapped around his legs as he rested his head on his knees. “I’m so sorry, Rafieo. Why didn’t you tell me that the movie was upsetting you?” Mikey asked as he climbed onto the bed next to his lover. “Rafieo,” Mikey gently rubbed his arm.

“I’m a monster,” Rafieo quietly stated as his eyes filled with tears.

“Oh, Rafieo, Rafieo, no,” Mikey wrapped his arms around Rafieo’s neck and cradled his head to his plastron as Rafieo started to sob softly. “You’re not a monster; you’re a beautiful, loved, intelligent turtle.”

“No,” Rafieo shook his head. “I’m not. Yer just sayin’ that ta try and make me feel better.” Rafieo’s large body shook as he tried to repress his choking sobs.

“I’m only telling you the truth, Rafieo.” Mikey protested softly. “I can assure you that when I look at you I don’t see some creature made from a lab. I see a beautiful turtle made just for me. You’re my special someone, my gentle puppy.” Mikey explained as he pressed a kiss to the top of Rafieo’s head. “I love you, Rafieo, and I always will.”

Rafieo lifted his head and quickly rubbed at his eyes. “You should love someone who isn’t a monster. I don’t know why you put up with me.”

“Rafieo,” Mikey grabbed Rafieo’s hand and eased it away from his face. “You are not a monster; stop saying that. You’re--”

“I am a monster.” Rafieo roared angrily. He pulled his arm away from Mikey and stood. “Look at me! I’m red, I’ve got spikes sticking outta my face, neck, and shell, my neck is out too far. Just look at me.”

Mikey smiled softly. “I am, Rafieo, and I see everything I’ve ever need.” Rafieo blinked and stared at Mikey. “You’re strong, kind hearted, modest, passionate, a gentle giant, and dependable. You’re perfect for me, Rafieo.” Mikey held out his arms and Rafieo frowned.

“I hurt people though, just like that monster did.” Rafieo argued. “I even hurt you.”

“That was a long time ago, Rafieo.” Mikey frowned and his arms dropped slightly. “You know I don’t hold that against you. You were young and confused--”

“Because I was freshly made, right?” Rafieo’s face scrunched up into a scowl.

Mikey’s hands fell to his sides as he stared at Rafieo. “Rafieo, I honestly don’t care if you were made, born, hatched, mutated,” Mikey motioned to himself. “None of that matters to me. What matters to me is this.” Mikey suddenly leaped off the bed and Rafieo’s eyes widened as he instantly caught the flying turtle. Mikey smiled. “You’re always around to catch me.” Mikey pressed a quick kiss to Rafieo’s beak and wrapped his arms around his neck.

Rafieo couldn’t help but smile as he nuzzled Mikey’s neck. “I don’t know why you love me, but I’m glad that you do.”

“I think we should watch Young Frankenstein tomorrow.” Mikey suggested. “It’s a much better movie. You’ll like it. The creature ends up with the hot chick.” Mikey added as Rafieo chuckled and headed towards bed. “No, I’m serious. He, like, bangs her multiple times off screen. It’s a much better version.”
