Don didn’t tell anyone about where he had gone but his family quickly caught onto his strange new behaviors which they correctly deduced came from wherever he had been. For instance, Don was starting to feed Leo more and more carrots as well as make him do frequent eye checkups which had Leo on edge and constantly shutting down Don’s suggestion of glasses or contacts.
When they battled against Karai again, Don was actually the one to take her out. He struck at her quickly, in the center of her back, and had to be stopped from striking her again after she had fallen. While Raph pulled him away, Don had shouted, “How do you like being stabbed in the back, bitch?” which had seem harsh for the usual passive genius. Don wouldn’t answer any of his brothers’ questions after that incident either.
He was finally forced to answer a question after ‘the incident’ with Raph and Leo. “Why the hell did ya put my hand on Leo’s thigh?” Raph screamed, still outraged at being forced to feel up his own brother. Leo’s face was still darker in his cheeks from his embarrassment at being groped.
“I don’t want you two to waste any time from now on.” Don had answered simply and tried to leave the corner that he had been trapped into. They wouldn’t let him move an inch.
“We’re all tired of your odd behavior, Don. Ever since we returned from the different worlds the Ultimate Drako sent us all to you’ve been acting differently. What happened?” Leo asked, concerned and confused.
“Yeah, Donnie, out with it,” Raph growled. “Yer tryin’ ta hook Leo and me up, yer acting like Leo’s eyes are gonna give out on him any minute now, and ya suddenly have such a vendetta against Karai. What gives?”
“Not to mention that thing you wrapped around Mikey’s arm.” Leo motioned over his shoulder to their poor baby brother who was still unused to walking around with the large metal glove Don had strapped to him.
Don took a deep breath as he began his tale. “I went to the future, a very dark future I hope to prevent.”

He was slowly dying. It wasn’t very painful, at least. Still, it was unavoidable. If Donatello was around, he’d be able to help him, perhaps even perform an operation and save his life. But Donatello, his closest friend, had been gone for too many years.
Leatherhead was almost glad that Donatello wasn’t around to see him as he was currently. Since Leatherhead had diagnosed himself with cancer he hadn’t been very motivated to do much. He wished he could figure out some new weapon or tool to help the remaining turtles with their fruitless battle against the Shredder’s evil forces, but the three weren’t even fighting back anymore. Well, Leonardo had stopped awhile ago, Raphael had finally stopped fighting since Mr. Jones’ death, and Michelangelo only did what little he had to with the rebels but never pushed for more than simply surviving.
There really seemed no point to living anymore and since he was going to die slowly, Leatherhead decided to take his life into his own hands, by ending it.

Mikey walked through what he had once called home. He looked at the destruction from the last battle and sighed as he kicked some rumble off of the couch. There was a time where he would walk through the lair and think that he would never be alone. Now he was better off alone.
He couldn’t be by Leo’s side anymore. His brother only spoke of depressing things and Mikey was already on the edge of suicide.
He wouldn’t be able to keep up with Raph. Raph never stayed in the same place for more than a night, not allowing himself to get comfortable or find a new place to call home. He refused to be with anyone.
It hurt to be with April. She had aged horribly, her beautiful face wrinkled with worries and her eyes dull from crying night after night from the loss of Casey.
Don wasn’t an option. But sometimes, when he was in their old lair and sitting on their couch, he could close his eyes and pretend that he wasn’t alone.

Sensing another in the room, Don lifted his head from the final plans he and Leo had agreed upon. He offered a small smile at seeing Raph but his brother had no smile for him.
“You’re not the true Don, not our Don.” Raph accused, his remaining eye narrowed harshly.
“What do you mean?” Don frowned as he tried to figure out the hidden message behind Raph’s words.
“Our Don’s dead, I saw him die.” Raph admitted as he fingered his Sais, a habit he had never gotten out of. “He disappeared years ago, yeah, but then he came back and he found me. And I saw him die; ya died in my arms, he died in my arms.” Raph held up his arms and clenched his fingers into fists. “Yer not him, ya can’t be.”
“This is a different world,” Don felt relieved. His own world could still be okay. He had a chance to get back to his family, the family they were supposed to be.
Raph seemed to read his thoughts. “Ya need ta not worry ‘bout this world, ya need ta return to yer world and make sure it don’t become like this one.”
“I know, but I can’t leave anyways, I don’t know how.” Don explained.
Raph scowled. “Then ya better make sure that outta all of us, yer the one who survives tomorrow.”
Frowning, Don shifted his weight from one foot to the other. “I’m going to try my hardest to make sure that all of us make it through the battle tomorrow, Raph.”
A harsh, bitter laugh escaped from Raph’s mouth. “Ya really ain’t our Donnie. He had lived through this world too; he stopped being that naive and hopeful years before he died.”
“What happened to him?” Don questioned.
Raph sighed and shook his head. “He couldn’t say. He was halfway dead when he found me. He was a mess though; worst off than all of us combined. He just said he was sorry and he loved me. Then, well, he was truly gone. I never told the others ‘cause they still had the small chance that ya’d come back.” Raph looked Don up and down. “And ya did come back, it was just too late.” He turned around and pounded his fist against the doorframe. “Get some sleep, Donnie. Ya need ta be yer best tomorrow.”
Don didn’t know if he felt comforted or more disturbed by Raph’s confession. He was glad that this world wasn’t his own, not really. But what could have possibly happened to him? And would it still happen? Could this world still become a reality?
Turning back to the plans, Don decided he just needed to make sure that it wasn’t too late to save the world.
