Slade often came out from his lair to just be in the fresh air and enjoy life a bit—despite what people thought of him—but he only did so at night. The daylight was no place for someone who stood out from a crowd but didn’t want to draw attention to himself. And it wasn’t like he went out every night; he only went out when the night was exceptionally beautiful and the stars and moon were too bright and demanded to be viewed like they currently were.
He was expecting to just quietly jump from one rooftop to another and stroll around the normal grounds of Jump City, which to him were several stories up and away from the petty people that normally walked around at night. He wasn’t expecting to view, from a good three rooftops away, Robin and Red X in a heated battle.
Always expect the unexpected.
But still, when he watched as Robin was pinned to the ground and Red X pulled up his mask to kiss the Boy Wonder, Slade really wasn’t expecting that either. Even more so, he didn’t expect Robin to wrap his arms around Red X’s neck and start kissing the thief back instead of throwing him off and attacking him again.
Before Slade can really think about anything, the two boys began to strip themselves of their shirts and Slade watched Red X’s hand on Robin’s belt. He figured that they never thought anyone else would be up on other buildings that were easily twenty stories high. It seemed like those boys also forgot to expect the unexpected.
But when Robin threw his head back in something looking like pleasure and Red X is working on getting his pants down, something snaps in Slade. It was enough to trigger Slade’s inner desires—the ones he had to battle hard against during Robin’s apprenticeship. He had to be the first to dominate the Boy Wonder, his boy, not some lowly thief.
When he arrived silently on their rooftop, he carefully remained quiet and simply stood to the side of the boys as they started kissing again. After a moment of watching each teenager’s hands take turns running over one another, he cleared his throat to make himself known. He had seen enough to know that Robin wasn’t going to use his better senses and stop it himself.
Slade got some satisfaction out of seeing both masks go completely wide-eyed and Robin blushing.
“What the hell?” Red X growled as he pointed an accusing finger at Slade. “Look, buddy, just go back to watching from the other rooftop, okay?” Robin blush turned darker at the other boy’s words.
“Wait, you’ve been watching the entire time?” Robin stared in horror as Slade silently nodded once. “And you’ve known about it?” Robin still has a blush on his face but he turned to glare at Red X.
The thief shrugged his shoulders. “I thought it was kind of hot. You know, some guy who has a voyeurism kink; he wasn’t hurting anything like that. Hell, I didn’t know that he would want to join in or anything like that.” That only made Robin blush even more. He pushed Red X off of his straddled lap. He growled and retrieved his shirt, quickly pulling it back on.
“That’s it,” Robin growled out. “I told you before, X, that I wanted to wait until we got back to your apartment before we ever started anything but you assured me that no one would see and you just had to have it right away.” With his shirt back in place, Robin glared once more at the thief. “Now you’re not getting any tonight.”
“What?” Red X jumped up, obviously panicked. “Come on, don’t say such things! Look, we’ll go back to my place and the problem will be solved. We’ll just forget that this creep was ever even here.”
Robin’s eyes widened even more and he looked at Slade worriedly. “Red, I wouldn’t talk about Slade that way.”
Red looked over at Slade, who had still yet to say a word, and tilted his head to the side. “This is Slade? Wow, you were right, he does stalk you, doesn’t he?” Slade’s eye narrowed but Red X obviously didn’t get the warning. “Well, listen here, Slade, Robin and I are a couple now. I know you’re still all creepy for him and whatnot, but he’s mine now. So tough luck, go find someone else to stalk.”
“I had Robin first, little thief, and you should know that he is one item you can not steal, especially not from me.” Slade threatened as he finally spoke. He crouched down and prepared himself for a fight. He wasn’t going to do much harm to Robin’s little boyfriend but he was going to teach him a lesson.
And from then on he was going to make sure Robin and Red X never had a peaceful date night again. He couldn’t force Robin to like him back, and he would never do such a thing, but he could make sure that Robin never got the chance to like someone else.
