"Are you drinking?” Leon did a double take as he stopped behind the couch.

Michael paused, the beer touching his beak, to set the can down to rest against his thigh. “So what if I am? Am I not allowed to drink after a crappy day of work?”

Leon pursed his beak shut against his offer to talk. Lately, Michael had been more snappish and rude towards him. Not that they really saw much of each other due to their new jobs. “You can do what you want, I guess.” Leon shrugged. “I’m going to go for a run.”

“But you just got home from work.” Michael frowned. “And why are you going to go for a run anyways? It’s not like we need to stay in shape for fighting or anything.”

“I like running and staying in shape is important for everyone, not just fighters.” Leon argued lightly as he took off his uniform and changed into his old gear, complete with his swords. It felt nice to be back in the outfit he was made to wear.

“I won’t be too long,” Leon promised. He leaned over the couch to press a kiss to Michael’s cheek only to be denied as Michael sneered and turned his head away from Leon. “Whatever then,” he growled, slamming the door shut behind him.

Leon leaned against the door for a moment and sighed miserably. Honestly, he just needed to run to try and rid himself of his stress caused by Michael’s new attitude. Maybe he could run fast enough to avoid his problems at home.

The television was off by the time Leon came home. But music was blasting throughout the rooms as Leon made his way to his bedroom. His room was empty but he wasn’t surprised by that. For the past week he had been sleeping alone, after all.

He sat down on his bed and gripped his throbbing head. Michael knew he hated it when his music was that loud but he was probably doing it on purpose just to annoy him. Leon was debating against breaking Michael’s music system or trying to sleep through the obnoxious blast of music. He was about to stand up and put a stop to the music when his door was slammed open with a loud cry of “You!”

Leon’s eye widened as Michael burst into his room, waving his hands wildly in the air while swinging his hips to the repeated lines of “I want to take you to a gay bar,” blasting through the air.

For a moment, Leon didn’t react as Michael continued to dance around his room. But as Michael began to slowly remove his clothes and straddle Leon’s lap as he continued to dance, Leon was quick to shove Michael away.

“What the hell do you--?” Leon’s mouth closed as Michael’s pants landed on his head.

And then, as Michael sang along to the song, he began to thrust his hips provocatively instead of simply swinging them.

That was enough.

Leon slowly reached for his sword, silently unsheathing it in time to thwack Michael over the head with the blunt side of the weapon just as the song ended. Michael fell into an unconscious heap on the ground and Leon went to shut off the music before the next song began.

Leon wouldn’t look at Michael the next morning. Neither of them said a word to each other, not even when Michael grabbed at Leon’s hand.
Leon didn’t turn around, didn’t say anything, and kept his other hand on the doorknob. Michael simply let go of his hand and both left to their respective work places.

The day went by in a haze and when Leon finally stumbled home after taking the long route there, he wasn’t surprised to not find Michael around.

Instead he was surprised to find Michael in the bathroom, with a sander in his hand and tears running down his face.

“Michael?” Leon asked, concern and confusion mixed in his voice. “What are you doing?”

“Do you really care?” Michael snapped at him.

Leon’s fists clenched at his sides but he simply closed his eye and took a breath before he replied. “Of course I care,” Leon sighed and moved into the bathroom. “We may be having a,” he faltered for words, “rough spot right now but that doesn’t mean that I don’t--” Leon trailed off as he looked at Michael carefully.

Michael’s left top shell spike looked different. It finally hit Leon and he smacked Michael’s hand, causing him to drop the power tool to the ground. “Are you crazy, Michael?” Leon shouted angrily as he grabbed his wrists. “Why are you doing this?”

“Let go, Leon,” Michael frowned and tried to tug his wrists away.

“Why are you doing this?” Leon repeated, louder and angrier. “What made you think of doing this?”

“I said let go, Leon.” Michael looked away from Leon’s gaze and tried harder to free himself from Leon’s grip.

“Not until you tell me why,” Leon hissed in Michael’s face, pulling him closer. “Why are you hurting yourself like this?”

“Because I thought it would make you love me again!” Michael finally admitted.

“What?” Leon frowned, his grip slacking enough for Michael to tear his arms away and take a step back from Leon. Michael wiped at his face as he sniffled. “Michael, what are you talking about?”

“Remember when we cuddled last,” Michael pouted, “it was a long time ago, yeah I know, but try to recall it.” He requested sarcastically.

Frowning, Leon took a step closer to Michael. “Yeah, I remember it. It was the last day before you got this new attitude of yours.”

“Forgive me for not being as cheerful as I used to be.” Michael replied, snarky. “It’s a bit difficult to be chipper when the most important person to you in the entire world is starting to fall out of love with you.”

“What made you think I wasn’t in love with you anymore?” Leon asked, bringing his hands up to gently touch Michael’s shaking shoulders.

“I stabbed you,” Michael frowned, recalling their last cuddle on the couch. “With my shell spike, while we were cuddling. And then you just went to bed. You didn’t want to cuddle with me anymore. Then you didn’t want to cuddle with me the next day, or the next day.” Michael’s eyes watered up again.

“Michael,” Leon frowned, “I was just tired from work. And you know I don’t care about your shell spikes,” Leon brought his hand around to gently trace the spikes. “I love you exactly how you are, every single little thing about you, and I always will love you. No matter what.”

“But I thought you were upset with me,” Michael sniffled and scrubbed at his face again. “I thought that maybe if I sanded my spikes down, you would want to cuddle with me again.”

“Michael, I want nothing more than to just cuddle with you forever and ever.” Leon wrapped his arms around Michael’s body and pulled him into an embrace. He pressed a kiss to Michael’s forehead and then tipped Michael’s head up to press a gentle kiss to his lips. “I never want you to hurt yourself again. You’ve had too much pain in your life already.”

“So you weren’t upset with me or anything?” Michael asked as he pressed his head into Leon’s chest.

“I was upset with your attitude. You weren’t acting like the Michael I know and love. But that’s okay. I get upset and annoyed by you sometimes. Just like you can get upset and annoyed by me, especially when I’m being a prude.” Michael smiled lightly and Leon smiled back. “I’m not saying that there is always going to be good times in our relationship, but if we do this thing right, we will have more good times than bad times. And all of those good times we have together will outweigh every single little spat or fight that we have.”

“Do you promise?” Michael asked, his voice small and innocent.

“I promise,” Leon tilted Michael’s head up and pressed another kiss to his lips, sealing their beaks together strongly. Michael wrapped his arms around Leon’s neck and held on as Leon lifted him and carried him out onto the couch.

“I believe you said you wanted to cuddle?” Leon wrapped his arms and legs around Michael’s body, securely pinning him to the couch. “Because I will cuddle with you all night just like this.”

“Well, you’re kinda crushing me like this.” Michael weakly complained, shifting slightly underneath Leon.

“Too bad,” Leon smirked as he allowed his body to become dead weight atop of Michael.

Michael squirmed. “But Leon,” he whined even as a huge grin broke over his face. Leon grinned back and pressed another kiss to Michael’s beak. “Hm,” Michael hummed happily. “Maybe I can forgive you for crushing my body if I get more kisses.”

“Oh really?” Leon leaned forward to press another kiss to Michael’s beak, his tongue sliding against Michael’s lower lip, asking for entrance. Michael gasped and eagerly opened his mouth to allow Leon’s tongue to slide forward and tangle with his own.

They shared their breaths as they continued to lie on the couch, cautiously touching and exploring each other until Michael turned his head, breaking the kiss in order to breathe. Leon didn’t lose a beat though and continued to kiss and lick at Michael’s neck instead of his mouth.

Michael moaned appreciatively as he tipped his head back to arch his neck into Leon’s mouth and his ministrations. “You like that, huh?” Leon smiled as he tongued at one of the metal piercings on Michael’s neck.

Michael gasped and panted. “Leon, wait, wait,” he pushed at Leon’s plastron until Leon sat up.

“What’s wrong?” Leon frowned.

“My legs were starting to fall asleep,” Michael answered calmly as he straddled Leon’s lap. “But yeah, I really liked that so feel free to keep doing it,” Michael grinned as he turned his head to the side in offering.

Leon smiled widely as his arms came to wrap up around Michael’s waist. “I love you,” he whispered against Michael’s neck, “so much.”

Smiling as well, Michael ran his hands up Leon’s arms. “And I love you too.” Leon continued to suckle on Michael’s neck. “Wait a minute,” Michael frowned, “this is the perfect time for makeup sex, not make-out not-sex!”

Blinking, Leon sighed and slapped a hand over his face as he pushed Michael off of his lap with an undignified cry of surprise.
